Fidel Tukel has coached many different athletes in his long career. Fidel Tukel has worn many hats as a coach, boxing promoter, trainer, and even
construction company leader. Today, he manages a large construction
outfit in Sydney that specializes in concrete products and services
throughout the area.
Tukel has also helped organize many different musical concerts and fights throughout Australia as a music promoter and boxing promoter. He continues to give back to the youth of his community by coaching many different youth sports teams, including a softball team.
Here are three tips he has learned as a softball coach:
- Fundamentals are key. This is obvious for some coaches but not for others. Even the most competitive and skilled teams need to brush up on the fundamentals of fielding, hitting, and pitching to be successful, as Fidel Tukel has found out first hand.
- Make roles clear from the start. You should know your players’ strengths and weaknesses and always put your players in positions to succeed. Make sure your players know where they are going to be playing and what is expected from them.
- Don’t compromise on discipline. Set the rules for conduct on your team and stick to them. The moment your punishments for bad behavior become inconsistent, they will appear arbitrary, and you’ll lose your team. This is especially important with your star players. No one should be above the law on your team.
Fidel Tukel has taken these lessons to heart after
years of training and coaching athletes of all skill levels and in many
different contexts.
